A Career Training Program emphasizes specific skill development and is designed to lead to licensure or certification. Upon completion of the program, a student is well-prepared to enter the chosen career field.

Since many Selective Admissions Programs have special deadlines and admissions criteria, applicants to Selective Admission Programs should consult with an IRSC advisor well before the intended term of enrollment. Florida Statutes require students in Career Training Programs that have 450 hours or more to pass the Basic Skills Requirement, except for those students who meet the state standards for an exemption.

Non-exempt students who are enrolled in a Post-secondary Adult Vocational Program greater than 180 clock-hours must complete a basic skills examination within the first 6 weeks after admission to the program. The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) is administered by the Assessment Services Department at each IRSC campus. Minimum basic skills grade levels in mathematics and language must be met. Any student scoring below the acceptable levels must be provided with instruction to correct identified deficiencies. At the completion of developmental instruction, the student will be retested.
