DSC 1557 Florida Personal Radiation Detector
This course explores the issues encountered in the detection of radiological/nuclear material in a variety of operational settings. It covers: preventative radiological/nuclear detection operational issues in special event settings; intelligence driven operations, and wide area searches while shipments are in transit. It also covers the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) contained in Title 49 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. This course introduces or refreshes as necessary the student with basic 49 CFR structure, and delves specifically into the regulations as they apply to the transportation of radioactive materials. Students learn about required hazard communication, shipment documentation, and typical radioactive materials packaging, as well as commonly transported radionuclides. The course provides the training needed for personnel to successfully employ a personal radiation detector.
