COS 0502 Barbering I: Theory of Barbering (N)
In this course, students are introduced to the foundational principles and practices of barbering. Students learn and apply sanitation and infection control procedures, identify and properly use barbering tools and equipment, and perform hair and scalp analysis. Students practice basic technical skills including shampooing, sectioning, clipper and shear cutting, tapering, and introductory hairstyling techniques. Students also develop professional skills through client consultation, communication, and grooming services. Emphasis is placed on students demonstrating safe work practices, professional conduct, and compliance with state barbering laws and regulations. Through theory instruction and supervised hands-on practice, students build the foundational barbering competencies necessary for entry-level barber services and continued coursework in the barbering program.
