DTE 2141 Ceramic Theory (N)
This course emphasizes the concepts and nomenclature of elementary dental ceramics and the fabrication of metal-ceramic single crowns and multi-unit bridges. Topics include history of ceramics; chemistry of dental porcelain; impression identification, disinfection, and evaluation; various methods of model construction and articulation; designing and waxing substructures for porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns and bridges; alloy selection for PFM's; metal casting and preparation for porcelain; pre and post-soldering; color theory related to building porcelain; esthetics; shoulder porcelains; and building and finishing porcelain fused to metal restorations.
