CHM 2210 Organic Chemistry I

In this course, students are introduced to the electronic and structural features of carbon containing compounds. The relationship between chemical structures and geometry to chemical reactions and product formation are covered. Reactions of major focus are the following: Acid- base reactions, radical halogenations of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols and phenols, Sn1, Sn2, E1, and E2. IUPAC nomenclature of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides, alcohols and phenols are also a major focus.
