CHM 2211 Organic Chemistry II
In this course, students learn the concepts of nomenclature, preparations, reactions, mechanisms, and the electronic and structural features of carbon-containing compounds. Classes of compounds studied include aromatics, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, amines, and conjugated pi systems. Students learn the spectroscopic techniques of infrared spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to characterize and elucidate the chemical structure of organic compounds.
