Student Ombudsman
Student Ombudsman
The Indian River State College Ombudsman/Student Advocate supports students in navigating institutional policies and procedures, facilitates effective communication, and advise a student about steps to explore options to make informed decisions. The ombudsman does not make or change policy nor determine the rights of others to unilaterally resolve conflicts. Rather, they provide a space where student concerns can be referred to the appropriate department for an informal resolution.
Indian River State College seeks to ensure that all students are treated in a fair manner.
The Ombudsman/Student Advocate assists students by:
- Listening to student complaints;
- Clarifying College policies and procedures;
- Referring students to the appropriate department or office for support;
- Helping a student explore options to make informed decisions as related to a complaint;
- Maintaining open and constructive communications; and
- Providing information to students about College’s formal grievance procedures.
The Ombudsperson is located at the Office of Student Life at the Massey Campus. Students may email studentaffairs@irsc.edu to communicate with the Ombudsperson or call 772-462-4706.
All students are encouraged to work through the Ombudsman/Student Advocate to gain support in resolving a problem informally. To file an official grievance, please see the Student Grievance section of the catalog.
