Nuclear medicine technologists operate cameras that detect and map the radioactive drug in a patient's body to create diagnostic images. Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the national certifying examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) and the national board exam given by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). The curriculum includes General Education requirements as well as in-depth instruction in nuclear medicine procedures, pathology, patient care, nuclear medicine radiobiology and physics. A competency-based clinical education component is conducted at hospitals.
